Social networking tools such as facebook would be another useful tool in the library environment. It would provide another avenue for promotion, marketing, feedback and opinions to a totally new audience and another way to provide information eg services such as book clubs, upcoming events , etc to existing users.
Web 2.0 has been a great learning experience although I've had to struggle through some sections (showing my age). It has been immensely mind broadening, not only expanding my knowledge of what is available but also providing a better understanding of the potential of these tools.
Many thanks to PLS.

Week 10 - Mashups
Isn't it amazing all the things that can be done! If you can get them to work.
In the library setting:
virtual town walk, virtual heritage town walk - these would be great for historical and tourist information. We have a lot of mines in our area - some sort of map indicating where each mine is would be useful addition.
Update: I realised some time ago I had saved the photo in the wrong place. I'm going to send anyway without completing properly as time is getting away.
Update: Mail marshall wouldn't let email go through as a link so I'm progressing to Week 12

Week 9 Podcasts
Podcasts could be utilised for many things in the library environment. Promotion of events which simultaneously could also be a record of previous events such as storytime, youth activities, author talks, living books etc. Podcasts could useful for inservice and training.
Our library has actually enabled technology on one of our public access computers to enable patrons to avail themselves of podcasting.

Week 8 - Answer boards
I really enjoyed this one (nothing complex) however not sure whether I would contribute myself. We have one of our younger staff members who is a whizz at this. As someone else has said - the sort of thing to appeal to the younger, now generation.
Answer boards would be very useful in the library environment - ask a librarian? (reference). Could also provide a platform for book reviews by patrons in which other patrons could rate books etc and then be used as a type of readers' advisory.

Week 7 - Tagging, folksomomies etc
Another week done!
Yes, I can see definite possibilities for delicious, blogs, wikis etc to extend library services into technological future.
Sutherland has certainly done a good job using Delicious.

Week 6 - Youtube etc
This was OK. However, I didn't take the challenge and do the adventure of embedding a video. Mosman certainly gets some impressive authors to visit.
Excellent examples of how video is being used in libraries. Our organisation could use it for a tour of the library, instructional - eg for internet classes, historical information eg talks by living books, archival, record of events hosted in the library. A myriad of potential uses.

Week 5 - Wikis
This was certainly interesting.
Host of opportunities for a library to use a wiki - readers advisory group, procedures manual, event planning.
However, the big downside and one which gives me huge reservations regarding wikis in the open environment is that anyone can edit.

Week 4 - RSS
This week was OK!
I don't mind RSS - quickly gives you the highlights and then only a click away to read the stories you are interested in. It's not that problematic either to get it to work. Speaking from a novice's point of view.
I could see many advantages in the library environment. It could be a way to keep patrons informed in upcoming events, new resources and provide professional development for staff by keeping them informed on changes, new ideas, what other libraries are trying, etc.
One of big downsides however, is how do you find time to read and assimilate all the infomation that comes your way with email (can be hard enough to keep on top of this with normal workloads), listserves, printed material, blogs, rss?

This is all new to me and I was so slow setting it up. Hopefully, by the end it'll all seem so easy.
